You didn't hear this one about Elvis...

Engaged To Frank Sinatra And She Couldn't Resist A Passionate Affair With Presley

Beautiful acrtress Juliet Prowse, was engaged to another legend, Frank Sinatra, at the time. But she was co-starring on GI blues with Elvis Presley. It was said that the two could hardly keep their hands off each other.

They spent every break in production locked away in Elvis’ dressing room while his bodyguards stood sentry at the door. One day one of his bodyguards played a practical joke on his boss pretending that Sinatra had just arrived at the set.

Some time later the same bodyguard tried to send a real warning to Presley from the lobby of a hotel where the two passionate lovers were. Elvis ignored the warning only to bump into Sinatra in the hallway as he left his lover’s room moments later…

What The Death Of Elvis Presley Teaches Us About Obesity

Life is a classroom where we should all observe and learn and become better people. There is no better way to learn than learning from the practical experience of others.

Elvis Presley is a legend. A great singer who blazed many trails. However the cause of his death is still not conclusively known. Was it the drugs he was taking? Or his massive intake of food that finally killed him? The situation is further complicated by the fact that it is believed that he was taking some of the drugs to try and control his weight.

Did Elvis Presley’s Diet Kill Him?

We all need a minimum of 1,500 to 1,800 calories daily to stay alive. People doing heavy work and therefore burning lots of calories need even more calories, up to about 10,000 per day.
Elvis was consuming over 85,000 calories per day and was sitting around doing nothing more strenuous than reaching forward to flip the channels on his TV set. 85,000 calories is more than enough to keep an elephant alive. Presley’s favorite daily diet was a 30-cm long bread roll stuffed with bacon, peanut butter and strawberry jam. Each one had about 42,000 calories. Elvis would eat two every day together with other snacks like hamburgers and deep-fried white bread.
The answer to our question is, yes, Elvis who conquered the fickle and fiercely competitive music industry was no match to the alluring aroma and taste of food. He just ate himself to death.

Why Do Most Celebrities Have A Weight Problem?

The Elvis era ushered in a new era of super-rich celebrities. The new medium of TV helped create a new breed of super-rich entertainers. Elvis with his good looks and suggestive dancing was especially suited to it. Ever since two problems have been constantly and regularly associated with super-rich celebrities. Drugs and weight problems. For the purposes of this article, we will concentrate on weight problems.
It is useful to note that many of these big stars were literally starving and hard-up for cash just before their big break to celebrity status. Just like Elvis.

Suddenly they find themselves in a situation where they do not have to worry about money. Situations where they don’t have to retain a nine to five job to put food on the table. That’s where all the trouble seems to start.

Most of us seem to end up in a similar situation when we get comfortable jobs that we enjoy. A mildly successful junior executive or entrepreneur is bound to have a problem with obesity, no wonder it’s a national crisis.

What We Can Learn From Elvis

It is clear that had Elvis exercised, even a little, he would have lived much longer. Had he lived in this information age, he would also have had numerous other "less painful" ways of controlling his weight.

But the real danger zone, if we are to learn anything from Elvis, is in the mind. Presley had reached a situation where there was nothing left to achieve. There was no new challenge, even in the horizon, which interested him. That was the really dangerous point and that’s the really deadly place for anybody to be in. It happens to many celebrities these days with devastating consequences.

The lesson is that however successful you become, you need a constant supply of new challenges and new ventures and formidable tasks to take up all the time. It seems that it is true that when the mind goes to sleep, the body follows suite with devastating consequences.

There is no need to rely on dividend paying stocks to make dividend like income in your portfolio when most stocks offer publicly traded options. You make these transactions with your broker, similar to buying and selling stocks. A call option gives another investor the right to buy shares from you at a price you set anytime before a certain date. You collect a premium by selling the call and you get the premium, in cash, on the day you sell the option. Just like a dividend.

How You Live Determines How Fit You Are

by Shawn LeBrun

Did you know that how you live, day to day, determines the level of fitness and muscularity you'll achieve? It's true, if you have a lifestyle that supports weight(fat) loss, you will not have to worry about being overweight.

If your lifestyle is not supportive of fat loss and staying fit, then it really doesn't matter what you do in the gym, your results will be limited.

It's when you expect one thing and do something totally opposite trying to get it that there becomes a problem.

If you weight train intensely, do your cardio consistently, and support yourself nutritionally, you'll get leaner, stronger, and more fit. It happens. Certain steps lead to certain destinations.

But doing things repeatedly that DO NOT support your goals will ensure you DO NOT reach them.

Here's some examples;

It's the new year and you decide one of your resolutions is to lose weight, specifically 15 pounds of fat. You give up your old, pleasurable lifestyle of eating burgers and fries four nights a week while watching your favorite T.V. shows.

Your new, improved lifestyle involves eating salads and chicken breasts and exercising at the time you used to watch your T.V. shows.

You're so determined to lose this weight that you sacrifice all sense of fun for the next four weeks while you continue to exercise each night, skipping the fast food and T.V.

Four weeks have gone by and you've indeed lost your goal weight of 15 pounds.

So you figure, hey, I've done it, now I can celebrate a bit. I'm going to cut back a bit on the exercise now that I've lost the weight I wanted and I think I'll see what's on the T.V.

You go to the fridge for a snack and realize you haven't gone shopping for your healthy foods yet this week.

But hey, there's still those burgers and fries in the fridge, and you've earned a little celebration meal.

Soon, the lost pleasure of eating this delicious food and watching your favorite TV show returns and feels so great. So you do it again the next night, and the next, etc....

The old, unproductive habits have crept back into your life and have now influenced the newer, more productive ones. Your lifestyle is nothing more than what you do, day in and day out. It can either support your fitness goals or hurt them.

If you want to shed some body fat yet you continue to take days off from cardio because you're not motivated enough to do it, that's part of your lifestyle.

What you choose to do each day will influence what you get in return.

Make small, improved lifestyle changes that support your fitness goals and continue them until they become habit. Then move on to another small change that benefits you, replacing an older, less productive habit.

In fact, by making lifestyle changes in moderation, you increase the likelihood that these changes will be permanent.

Anytime that you go back to the unproductive lifestyle that caused you to be overweight, the weight you lost can return again.

The solution? Do not rule out all sense of pleasure when you decide to go after your fitness goal.

In fact, your fitness goals of being slimmer, more muscular, and more confident should be more pleasureable than burgers or fries.

If your surrounding environment and habits (cookies, cake, ice cream in front of the TV) do not contribute to your fitness goals, you need to make a change so that what you eat and do each day does.

Fitness Scams

by Tracie Johanson

Caveat emptor is Latin for "let the buyer beware". Nowhere is this phrase more applicable than in the weight loss industry of today.

It seems that every time we turn around we are blasted and bombarded with the latest, greatest, new and improved treatment for obesity. From miracle pills to the latest fad diet, the gimmicks just keep coming. The sad truth is that few of these products work. Even fewer will result in real, permanent and lasting fat loss. A very few of the weight loss gimmicks on the market today are not only a consumer rip-off, but they are also quite dangerous.....even deadly. Caveat emptor indeed!

A PRIME SUSPECT?

As an example, consider the prescription diet drug Meridia. Does it help you lose weight? For some people, the answer is yes. For others, the answer is no. Can it kill you? The answer to this question seems to be a nervous 'maybe'. "The consumer group Public Citizen had petitioned the Food and Drug Administration for a ban, citing Meridia users who died of heart problems as young as their 20s and 30s. Even before Meridia was approved for sale, the FDA knew it could increase users' blood pressure, the group contended." (Source: cnn.com)

This week the FDA again refused to ban Meridia, even though whistleblower David Graham (an FDA drug safety officer) testified to Congress last fall that his agency was allowing five unsafe medicines to stay on the market, including Meridia.

ANOTHER PRIME SUSPECT?

Ephedra was banned in the United States last year, in part due to numerous deaths attributed to this popular weight loss supplement. On April 14, a federal Judge in Utah reversed the short-lived ban on ephedra. Within minutes, spammers were filling our email boxes with messages to BUY BUY BUY before ephedra was banned again.

One of these spammers, on their website, states that "Finally, the forbidden fat-burning herb banned for being 'too effective' - Ephedra - is available to the public again".

Yes, ephedra will help some people lose weight. Yes, ephedra is safe for some people in low doses. But there is that little nagging fact that people have DIED and that their deaths have been attributed to ephedra use.....

"The Advertising Standards Authority in Great Britian has ordered L'Oreal to pull ads for an anti-cellulite cream. The board found that claims as to the effects and timeliness of the skin treatment were misleading and could not be backed up by any research. The ads featured Claudia Schiffer and L'Oreal has agreed to make changes to the advertisements." (Source: adjab.com)

For whatever reason, some people have decided that anabolic steroids are the best way to lose weight. Despite the well-documented and serious side-effects of steroid use, the lure of easy weight loss has caused many to throw caution to the wind. Perhaps the most concerning trend is steroid use among our teenage population: "Teens also listed steroids, growth hormone, amino acids and other potentially unhealthful products among those they'd tried in the previous year." (Source: cnn.com)

THE SAFE AND EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVE:

Caveat emptor (let the buyer beware) is indeed the rule when it comes to many weight loss gimmicks. However, there is one weight loss method that has never been banned, has never led to an investigation, and has never been been listed on a 'whistleblower' fraud report: EXERCISE.

Exercise is the only path to health and fitness that virtually every doctor in the world agrees upon. Exercise is safe, effective, and brings many more benefits to our lives than diets or drugs ever will. Exercise is fun, invigorating, motivating and the single most powerful way to improve our life and well-being!

Instead of looking for another short-cut to weight loss success, choose the proven method that gets results. Choose exercise.

7 Easy Steps To Weight Loss by Dan Farrell

7 Easy Steps To Weight Loss Copyright © 2006 Prepaid Solutions

Is one of your New Year's resolutions to lose weight? To finally start to feel good about yourself and look good? You aren't alone, as millions of Americans are looking for that 'perfect weight loss program'. Here are a 7 steps you can start today and see results very quickly. No fads, just facts maam :o)

Current statistics reveal that 75% of Americans are overweight and 40% are

obese. For those who desire to lose weight and obtain optimal health, sometimes it can be overwhelming trying to figure out where to start. From the Atkins Diet to the South Beach Diet; from the low fat to low carb diets, there are numerous weight-loss plans to choose from. In addition, given conflicting information as to what works best, it can be difficult deciding what to do.

For those who have tried many diet plans with no success, it becomes more difficult and frustrating. Many people forget that a diet might work wonders for their friend but won't work well for them...not because the diet is "bad", but because each body reacts differently. However, there is a way to lose weight that is easy, fast, and doesn't involve deprivation or calorie counting.

Before the weight loss tips are discussed, it's important to address some background information about body genetics and why weight loss can be difficult.

Before anyone starts a diet, it is important to note that each person has a different body build. Some people are short and stout while others are tall and thin. Some have big hips and shoulders, and others are short and very muscular.

Genetics can determine body shape and a person's natural build just as it does eye color, hair color, skin color, and so on. The good news is that genetics do not determine whether or not one will be fat, but will determine one's body shape. This means that not every woman can expect to be tall and thin like a Hollywood actress or supermodel such as Tyra Banks. Not every man can expect to be defined and muscular like The Rock. The goal, really, is to be at a comfortable weight for one's body shape and to feel good about it.

So, why are people overweight? Here are 11 of the most common reasons:

1. Slow metabolism: People who are overweight have a hard time burning off food.

As a result, the fat is stored.

2. Emotional eating: Those who struggle with weight often eat when stressed or when other emotional upheavals are happening in their life.

3. Hormonal imbalances.

4. Eating portions that are too large.

5. Eating lots of "diet food" (that is low fat,low carb, and "sugar free" foods).

6. Build up of toxins in the body.

7. Eating late: Late-night eating can cause food to convert to fat more easily.

8. High susceptibility to growth hormones: These hormones are given to animals to help them grow faster and larger, so meat and dairy have residual growth.

hormones. In humans, these hormones can result in increased fat storage.

9. Not eating breakfast.

10. Numerous diets: Going from diet to diet has a negative impact on the metabolism and causes weight loss to be much more difficult.

11. Food ingredients: The reasons why are amazing and beyond the scope of this article.

Simple Tips for Easy Weight Loss:

Now that there is a better understanding of body genetics and why people have a tendency to be overweight, here are the tips for fast, easy weight loss.

Tip #1: Drink water upon arising: First thing in the morning, drink eight ounces of distilled water, bottled water, or filtered water (not tap water).

Tip #2: Eat a big breakfast: This should be done 45 minutes after getting up in the morning. Suggested organic foods to choose from (they must be organic) are apples, bananas, rye bread with no sugar, plain yogurt, tuna, lamb, tomatoes, carrots, peppers, raw honey, wild smoked salmon, and so on.

Tip #3: Drink distilled water throughout the day: Eight glasses is recommended

Tip #4: Walk non-stop one hour each day: This doesn't have to be power walking; just walk at your own pace. Walking outdoors is best.

Tip #5: Stop eating after 6:00 PM: This is hard for some people, but do the best you can.

Tip #6: Do a candida cleanse: Candida is yeast overgrowth in the colon that can cause all kinds of health problems. Check online for "Candida Cleanse" or go to your local health food store.

Tip #7: Do a colon cleanse: This cleanse cleans out the digestive system, which is clogged and sluggish in many overweight people. Once again, check online or go to your local health food store.

More and more Americans are becoming overweight. Extra weight can result in many health issues and negatively impact one's emotional state and self-esteem.

However, for those struggling with this problem, there is hope. You can lose it and keep it off. Now that you have a understanding of body genetics and why you might be overweight, take action today! Commit to trying at least a few of the steps.

The truth is that contrary to what most people think, prices have not gone up, it is just that our paper money has lost a lot of value, more so because it is no longer backed by real money, real silver and gold. Did you know that the same weight in silver still buys gas at the price of decades ago (25 cents a gallon). That’s why investment experts have long-recommended portfolio diversification and that 20% or more of an investor's assets be devoted to tangible assets such as gold, silver and platinum bullion and bullion coins. This is a prudent asset diversification strategy critical in today’s uncertain world that is made possible by Monex a company that has been helping clients buy gold bullion since 1967.
